Unauthenticated stored XSS via unsanitized AI summaries
Published Jul 16, 2026 · Updated Jul 16, 2026
Stored XSS in WPDeveloper BetterDocs before 4.5.5 allows remote attackers to execute scripts in visitors' browsers via prompt injection. The betterdocs_generate_article_summary AJAX action accepts unauthenticated post content, caches the unsanitized AI response in _betterdocs_article_summary, and renders it through jQuery .html(). Exploitation requires the AI Doc Summarizer, a configured provider key, a published document with the summary block, and no cached benign summary; an administrator viewing the page runs the stored payload.
