CVE-2026-10822Network attack vector

Service exit via ignored DNSKEY record boundary

Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026

Reachable assertion in Internet Systems Consortium BIND 9 allows remote attackers to crash named through a malformed DNSKEY record. dns_name_fromwire() ignores the record boundary when reading an algorithm-253 name, accepts its overstated length, and later fails an assertion while printing it. The record must be stored and later rendered as text; 9.20 and 9.21 are susceptible to exit, while 9.18 shares the faulty code but its crash is unconfirmed.

Exploitability

Present is not the same as exploitable

Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
