Command execution via mirror-supplied version strings
Published Jun 4, 2026 · Updated Jun 4, 2026
OS command injection in nvm through 0.40.4 allows remote attackers to execute shell commands via crafted mirror version strings. The nvm_download function re-parses a URL-bearing curl or wget command with eval, while nvm_get_checksum embeds the same value in awk program text. Exploitation requires a user or CI job to resolve a version from an attacker-controlled non-default mirror or an intercepted non-TLS mirror; the default HTTPS mirror is unaffected, and commands inherit the privileges of the user running nvm.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
