Process crash via unvalidated model dimensions
Published Jun 1, 2026 · Updated Jun 1, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in ggml.ai whisper.cpp 1.8.0 through 1.8.2 allows local users to crash a process via a crafted model file. whisper_model_load accepts a zero n_audio_state with positive n_audio_layer, creates zero-dimension tensors, and passes a null data pointer to memcpy or an invalid tensor to a release-build assertion. Exploitation requires control of a model file loaded by the application and interrupts only that process, with no reported data access or code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
