Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode override
Published Jul 27, 2026 · Updated Jul 27, 2026
Stored XSS in Advanced Ads before 2.0.23 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts through the the_ad shortcode. The shortcode decodes the ad_args JSON override and emits its override value into page output without context-appropriate escaping. Contributor access and an existing ad are required; the script runs when an editor, administrator, or visitor views the stored content.
