Command execution via cross-origin terminal WebSockets
Published Jul 3, 2026 · Updated Jul 3, 2026
Command execution in Eclipse Theia 1.8.1 through 1.72.3 allows remote attackers to run OS commands through terminal WebSockets. The browser backend registers unauthenticated terminal RPC, accepts missing origins, and replaces Origin with the client-controlled fix-origin header. A user must visit a foreign-origin page while a reachable Theia browser application is running; the page can create a terminal, execute commands, and read output.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
