Unauthenticated privilege escalation via unchecked capability updates
Published Jul 24, 2026 · Updated Jul 24, 2026
Authorization bypass in EventON Action User 2.5.14 and earlier allows remote attackers to grant capabilities to non-administrator accounts. The unauthenticated evoau_save_capability AJAX action reaches update_role_caps() without verifying authorization, permitting writes to EventON management and upload_files capabilities. Administrator roles are guarded, but other roles and users can be modified; the same exposure reveals users, capabilities, and nonces and changes event-user terms.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
