Authenticated command execution via unescaped BMC username
Published Feb 27, 2026 · Updated Feb 27, 2026
Command injection in rubyipmi 0.12.1 and earlier in Red Hat Satellite allows remote authenticated users to execute operating system commands. The ipmitool backend inserts the BMC username into a shell command without neutralizing command separators, so a crafted value appends attacker-chosen commands. Exploitation requires the BMC component to be enabled with ipmitool and an account allowed to create or update hosts; commands run on the Satellite system.
