Local root command execution via PID reuse
Published Feb 2, 2026 · Updated Feb 2, 2026
Privilege escalation in Dr.Buho BuhoCleaner 1.15.2 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root through its XPC helper. The com.drbuho.BuhoCleaner.PrivilegedHelperTool service authenticates clients by reusable process ID instead of audit token, enabling process replacement after signature validation. The deleteAtPaths:withScripts: method then passes attacker-supplied scripts directly to /bin/sh -c; any local unprivileged account can gain root execution.
