CVE-2026-0885Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Browser crash via garbage-collector sweep race

Published Jan 13, 2026 · Updated Jan 13, 2026

Use-after-free in Firefox before 147 and Firefox ESR before 140.7 allows remote attackers to crash a browser via crafted JavaScript. A race between the main garbage-collection thread and a delayed PerformingGC helper lets an allocation enter a sweep list while BufferAllocator merges swept data, leaving stale memory for later marking. A crafted page must create sustained allocation pressure and win the helper-thread timing race; demonstrated outcomes are tab crashes and heap corruption, not code execution.
