Code execution via unchecked ICO buffer reads
Published Feb 20, 2026 · Updated Feb 20, 2026
Heap-based buffer overflow in GIMP 3.2.0-RC1 allows remote attackers to execute code by inducing a user to open a crafted ICO file. The file-ico plug-in's ico-load.c parser accepts incomplete palette and map reads without confirming that the requested byte counts were returned. Opening the file or visiting a page that supplies it is required; successful exploitation runs code with the current GIMP process's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
