Administrator code execution via extension dependencies

Published Jan 23, 2026 · Updated Jan 23, 2026

Claimed command injection in Open WebUI 0.6.32 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through extension requirements. The disputed install_frontmatter_requirements function passes frontmatter requirements to pip through subprocess.check_call, but the vendor states that dependency installation and extension execution are intended behavior. Only administrators or accounts granted the disabled-by-default, shell-equivalent workspace.tools permission can reach the relevant routes.
