Stored XSS via unconditional description filter removal
Published Feb 14, 2026 · Updated Feb 14, 2026
Stored XSS in Allow HTML in Category Descriptions 1.2.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts into category descriptions. The plugin removes the wp_kses_data output filter from term_description and related description fields without checking the writer's unfiltered_html capability. Administrator-level access is required, and injected scripts execute when another user views a rendered category description; exposure is limited to multisite installations or sites where unfiltered_html is disabled.
