Unauthenticated root code execution via portal buffer overflow

Out-of-bounds write in PAN-OS 10.2, 11.1, 11.2, and 12.1 allows remote attackers to execute code as root via crafted portal packets. The User-ID Authentication Portal writes beyond a buffer boundary while handling crafted network traffic; Palo Alto Networks has not disclosed the affected function or field. Exposure requires the portal and Response Pages to be enabled on an L3 interface where untrusted traffic can ingress.
