Local privilege escalation via unchecked artifact signing
Published Jun 16, 2026 · Updated Jun 16, 2026
Missing authorization in the Android kernel allows local users to elevate privileges by signing malicious Android Runtime bootclass artifacts. The smmu_attach_dev function in arm-smmu-v3.c omits a permission check before allowing the signing operation on attacker-controlled bootclass artifacts. Local low-privileged execution is required, but user interaction is not; successful exploitation grants elevated device privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
