Local privilege escalation via untrimmed app labels
Published Jun 1, 2026 · Updated Jun 1, 2026
UI misrepresentation in Android Settings 14, 15, 16, and 16 QPR2 allows local users to escalate privileges through a deceptive permission prompt. RequestManageCredentials displays a developer-controlled app label without loadSafeLabel trimming, so crafted label text can hide the permissions being requested. A low-privileged local app is required; exploitation needs no user interaction and can gain higher privileges.
