Local privilege escalation via automatic permission assignment
Published Jun 17, 2026 · Updated Jun 17, 2026
Elevation of privilege in Google Android 17 allows local users to gain special app access permissions through NFC dispatch. The tryStartActivity method in NfcDispatcher.java uses an insecure default that automatically assigns special app access permission when it launches an activity. Exploitation requires local access but no user interaction or additional execution privileges, granting permissions beyond the attacker's existing app rights.
