Local privilege escalation via package-state desynchronization
Published Jun 17, 2026 · Updated Jun 17, 2026
Race condition in Android 17 PackageInstallerService allows local users to remove a device-policy controller through a malicious app. The createSessionInternal method desynchronizes persisted package state, allowing an installation session to remove the DPC without device-owner consent. Exploitation requires user interaction to install the malicious app; successful removal strips managed-device policy control without requiring prior execution privileges.
