Local privilege escalation via permission override logic
Published Mar 2, 2026 · Updated Mar 2, 2026
Privilege escalation in Google Android 14 allows local users to gain system privileges by overriding any system permission. The removePermission method in PermissionManagerServiceImpl.java incorrectly allows a removal request to replace a protected system permission. Exploitation requires user interaction but no additional execution privileges, and successful abuse grants elevated local control.
