CVE-2026-0023Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via trusted install flag

Published Mar 2, 2026 · Updated Mar 2, 2026

Privilege escalation in Google Android 14, 15, 16, and 16 QPR2 allows local users to alter package update ownership without user interaction. PackageInstallerService.createSessionInternal trusts the caller-controlled INSTALL_FROM_MANAGED_USER_OR_PROFILE flag instead of clearing it before device-policy validation. A low-privileged installer app can suppress the registered update-owner warning during an application update, but the demonstrated impact excludes root access and signature bypass.
