Local privilege escalation via automatic selection confirmation
Published Jun 1, 2026 · Updated Jun 1, 2026
Tapjacking in MediaProvider's Photo Picker in Google Android 15 and 16 allows local users to escalate privileges without user interaction. Multiple Photo Picker paths finalized a single media selection as soon as it entered the selection set rather than waiting for an explicit confirmation event. The attacker must already have low-privileged local execution; successful exploitation elevates privileges on the device without victim interaction.
