Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode form attributes
Published Aug 25, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Stored XSS in PPWP – Password Protect Pages 1.9.21 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through ppwp shortcode attributes. The shortcode renderer places user-controlled placeholder and button-label attributes into the password form without sufficient sanitization and output escaping. Contributor-level access is required to store the shortcode in a page, and the script executes for visitors who open that page.
