Credential theft via Android task hijacking
Published Aug 29, 2025 · Updated Sep 3, 2025
Task hijacking in Transbyte Scooper News 1.0 through 1.2 allows local users to steal credentials through a malicious app. AndroidManifest.xml leaves the default task affinity unchanged, allowing a malicious activity with the same affinity to occupy the app task and appear when Scooper News opens. Exploitation requires installation and use of a malicious app on an Android device before Android 11; the counterfeit activity enables credential capture or deceptive permission requests.
