CVE-2025-9612

Stale data reads via undetected packet reordering

Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated Dec 11, 2025

Improper packet ordering in PCI-SIG PCI Express IDE before 6.5-Rev7.0 or 7.1-Rev7.0 allows physically proximate attackers to read stale data. After an IDE Sync message, receiver counter comparisons can miss a read or completion reordered ahead of an earlier posted write, causing the requester to consume stale data. Exploitation requires physical PCIe-link access or privileged control of a programmable switch and affects only deployments using IDE.
