Root access via crackable default password

Published Aug 28, 2025 · Updated Aug 28, 2025

Default credentials in Seeed Studio reSpeaker LinkIt7688 allow local users to obtain root access through the administrative interface. The firmware stores the root password in /etc/shadow as an MD5-crypt hash that the public proof of concept recovers as root. The CNA rates exploitation as local, high-complexity, and low-privilege, while the proof of concept also describes login through network-accessible services.
