Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode format attribute
Published Oct 11, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in ShortPixel Enable Media Replace 4.1.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to run scripts through a shortcode. The file_modified handler passes its user-controlled format attribute to PHP date() and returns the formatted result without output escaping. Contributor-level access is required to store the shortcode, and the script executes in a visitor’s browser when the affected page is viewed.
