Device crash via unchecked profile parameter copy
Published Aug 24, 2025 · Updated Aug 25, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in affected Linksys RE-series firmware allows remote authenticated users to crash the range extender. The addStaProfile handler copies oversized profile_name, SSID, WEP-key, cipher, or passphrase data into a stack local without a length check, allowing the saved return address to be overwritten. A valid management session is required; the published request demonstrates a persistent service crash, while the researcher reports control-flow hijacking and arbitrary code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
