CVE-2025-9390Public exploit

Local crash via undersized bitwise output buffer

Published Aug 24, 2025 · Updated Aug 25, 2025

Buffer overflow in Vim xxd 9.1.1459 through 9.1.1615 allows local users to crash xxd via crafted bitwise EBCDIC output. The LLEN_NO_COLOR macro sizes the output line for two hex characters per column, while -b bitwise mode can emit nine, so main writes past the line buffer. Triggering requires local execution with -b and -E and oversized column and group values; fortified builds abort, while unprotected builds risk memory corruption.
