Root shell access via SD-card marker file
Published Aug 24, 2025 · Updated Aug 25, 2025
Backdoor functionality in the Telnet service of FNKvision Y215 CCTV Camera 10.194.120.40 allows physically proximate attackers to obtain a root shell. On boot, firmware checks only whether /mnt/sda0/s1_rf_test_config exists on an inserted SD card and starts /usr/sbin/telnetd without reading the file. Physical access to insert the card and reboot the camera is required; the exposed Telnet service becomes network-reachable, and separate hardcoded credentials provide root access.
