Authenticated code execution via unchecked SSID copy
Published Aug 20, 2025 · Updated Aug 20, 2025
Stack overflow in Linksys RE-series extenders on affected firmware allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted SSID. WPSSTAPINEnr in mod_form.so copies the unbounded ssid parameter into a stack variable, overwriting its return address. Exploitation requires a valid device session; the demonstrated chain repeatedly crashes lighttpd while brute-forcing ASLR and ultimately opens a shell.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
