CVE-2025-9166Network attack vector

Service interruption via repeated message forwarding

Published Sep 9, 2025 · Updated Sep 9, 2025

Denial of service in Rockwell Automation ControlLogix 5580 firmware 35.013 allows remote attackers to trigger a major controller fault. When handling network messages, the controller repeatedly attempts to forward them and reaches a NULL pointer dereference, producing a major nonrecoverable fault. Network access to the controller is sufficient; the fault interrupts control operation rather than exposing or altering data.
