Credential phishing via default Android task affinity
Published Aug 18, 2025 · Updated Aug 18, 2025
Task hijacking in 1&1 Mail & Media mail.com Mail App 8.8.0 for Android allows local users to display a phishing activity. AndroidManifest.xml leaves the task affinity at the package-name default, allowing a malicious app to create a matching task stack and place its activity at the root. A malicious app must be installed and launched on the device; opening mail.com then foregrounds the spoofed activity, enabling credential or permission phishing.
