Credential theft via default task affinity
Published Aug 17, 2025 · Updated Aug 18, 2025
Task hijacking in BuzzFeed App 2024.9 for Android allows local users to present a phishing activity and capture sensitive input. AndroidManifest.xml leaves task affinity at the package-name default, allowing a malicious app with matching taskAffinity to place its activity at the root of the app's task stack. Exploitation requires installation and use of a malicious app followed by opening BuzzFeed App; the forged screen can capture credentials or induce permission grants.
