Local privilege escalation in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Linx 6.40 and earlier allows local users to execute commands as SYSTEM via MSI repair. The Driver Package x64 MSI repair launches vbpinstall.exe in a SYSTEM console that a standard Windows user can hijack to open a command prompt. Valid Windows credentials and local repair access are required; successful exploitation grants full control of files, processes, and system resources.
