Arbitrary file writes via unchecked archive links
Published Oct 5, 2025 · Updated Oct 5, 2025
Path traversal in ClearML before 2.0.2 allows local users to write arbitrary files by extracting a crafted archive. The safe_extract function validates archive member paths but passes symbolic and hard-link targets to tar.extractall without confirming that they remain under the extraction directory. Exploitation requires high privileges and user interaction; overwriting a startup or configuration file can execute code with the extracting process's permissions.
