CVE-2025-8891Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Plugin installation via unprotected AJAX callback

Published Aug 13, 2025 · Updated Aug 26, 2025

Cross-site request forgery in OceanWP 4.0.9 through 4.1.1 allows remote attackers to install Ocean Extra through a forged request. The oceanwp_notice_button_click AJAX callback processes a state-changing request without verifying a nonce or the caller's plugin-install capability. Exploitation requires an administrator to submit attacker-controlled content, after which the site installs or activates Ocean Extra without the administrator's intended consent.
