Unauthenticated shortcode execution via unvalidated action
Published Aug 16, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Code injection in ProfilePress 4.16.4 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary WordPress shortcodes without authentication. The registration and frontend-profile handlers pass an insufficiently validated action value to do_shortcode, causing WordPress to interpret attacker-controlled shortcode syntax. Exploitation requires a reachable ProfilePress form or profile action, and the resulting data access or modification depends on the installed shortcodes.
