CVE-2025-8851

Local denial of service via signedness error

Published Aug 11, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in LibTIFF tiffcrop 4.5.0 through 4.5.1 allows local users to crash the utility via a crafted TIFF file. In readSeparateStripsIntoBuffer, a negative TIFFReadEncodedStrip result is divided and cast to an unsigned row count before the read error is handled, producing an enormous value for later buffer processing. Exploitation requires local access and crafted TIFF processing, and the established consequence is interruption of the tiffcrop process.
