CVE-2025-8837Public exploit

Local imginfo crash via stale tile pointer

Published Aug 11, 2025 · Updated Aug 11, 2025

Use-after-free in JasPer 4.2.0 through 4.2.5 allows local users to crash imginfo via a malformed JPEG2000 file at debug level 32. Cleanup frees tile component pointers without nulling them, and jpc_dec_dump later dereferences the stale tile->tcomps pointer while emitting debug output. Exploitation requires local execution of imginfo with debug level 32; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer-detected abort.
