Authenticated code execution via unchecked authentication-mode values
Published Aug 11, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Linksys RE-series extenders version 20250801 allows remote authenticated users to execute code. The um_rp_autochannel function passes apcli_AuthMode_2G or apcli_AuthMode_5G through nvram_bufset and copies the unchecked value into a stack buffer. A valid management session is required; an oversized value overwrites the saved return address, enabling control-flow hijacking or a persistent service crash.
