Authenticated code execution via unchecked opMode copy
Published Aug 11, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2025
Stack overflow in six Linksys RE extenders through 20250801 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. The algDisable function stores an unchecked opMode value with nvram_bufset, and sysctl later copies it into a stack variable, overwriting the return address. A valid management-session cookie and network access to the extender are required; the published requests persistently crash the device, while the researcher reports code execution.
