Authenticated privilege escalation via unchecked role assignment
Published Aug 10, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2025
Missing authorization in xujeff Tianti 2.0 through 2.3 allows remote authenticated users to grant themselves administrator access. UserController accepts a client-supplied roleId at /tianti-module-admin/user/ajax/save without verifying that the requesting account may assign that role. A low-privilege session is required; successful exploitation permits password resets, user deletion, permission changes, and account lockout.
