Service interruption via unhandled policy-control responses
Published Aug 10, 2025 · Updated Aug 15, 2025
Improper state handling in Open5GS AMF 2.7.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash the AMF during UE registration. The GMM state machine fails to handle an NPCF AM policy-control response in its exceptional state and reaches a fatal assertion. Multiple UE registrations expose the path, especially under memory constraints, interrupting AMF service without reported data disclosure or modification.
