Root code execution via unvalidated firmware update string

Command injection in JVCKENWOOD DMX958XR SOC image 1.0.0005.4600 allows physically proximate attackers to execute code as root. The firmware update process passes a user-supplied string to a system call without properly validating the string first. Physical access to the receiver and initiation of a crafted firmware update are required; successful exploitation grants root-level code execution.
