Root code execution via firmware update string
Published Aug 6, 2025 · Updated Aug 6, 2025
OS command injection in Kenwood DMX958XR firmware 1.0.0005.4600 allows physically proximate attackers to execute code as root. The firmware update process uses an inadequately validated user-supplied string in a system call, allowing the string to alter the executed command. Physical access to initiate an unauthenticated firmware update is required, and successful exploitation grants root-level control of the receiver.
