CVE-2025-8637

Root code execution via unvalidated update string

Published Aug 6, 2025 · Updated Aug 6, 2025

Command injection in Kenwood DMX958XR 1.0.0005.4600 allows physically proximate attackers to execute arbitrary code as root via crafted update data. The firmware update process passes a user-supplied string to a system call without properly validating command content. Physical access is required, but authentication is not; successful exploitation grants root-context execution and control of the receiver.
