Local crash via AVI parser null dereference
Published Aug 5, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in Libav 12.0 through 12.3 allows local users to crash an AVI-processing application via a crafted AVI file. During AVI parsing, av_buffer_unref in libavutil/buffer.c dereferences a null buffer pointer instead of handling the invalid state. A local low-privileged user must cause an affected application to parse the file; the resulting process crash affects availability only.
