URL spoofing via origin-hiding truncation
Published Jul 22, 2025 · Updated Apr 13, 2026
URL spoofing in Mozilla Firefox Focus before 141 allows remote attackers to conceal a site's registrable domain with a long subdomain. The address bar truncates long URLs from the origin end and displays the opening subdomain text instead of preserving and highlighting the eTLD+1 domain. Exploitation requires a user to open a crafted URL; the misleading security indicator can make an attacker-controlled site appear to belong to a trusted domain.
