Address-bar spoofing via missing origin validation
Published Jul 22, 2025 · Updated Jul 29, 2026
Address-bar spoofing in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird before 141 allows attackers to leave stale search terms over a destination URL. The URL bar's persisted-search-term logic retained the prior query without verifying that the current document URI matched the URI used to load the search page. A user must navigate from a search results page; the intermittent state can hide an arbitrary destination's actual URL, and ESR releases before 140.1 are also affected.
