CVE-2025-8023Network attack vector

Arbitrary file placement via template path traversal

Published Aug 21, 2025 · Updated Aug 21, 2025

Path traversal in Mattermost Server allows remote authenticated users with system-admin rights to place template files outside target directories. The template-file destination path accepts malicious parent-directory components without neutralizing them before resolving the filesystem location. Affected branches are 9.11.0 through 9.11.17, 10.5.0 through 10.5.8, 10.8.0 through 10.8.3, and 10.9.0 through 10.9.2; system-admin rights are required.

Exploitability

Present is not the same as exploitable

Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
